The Arrell Global Food Innovation Awards recognize global excellence in food innovation and impact in the community.
The Arrell Food Institute recognizes the world leaders who ensure the future food security of the planet and hopes to inspire the new leaders to take bold steps towards change. Scientific excellence and community commitment are necessary to overcome the challenges our world will face in order to feed 9 billion people and more.
Two prizes, of at least $ 100,000 CAD each, will be awarded annually.
The first prize recognizes a researcher or group of researchers that has advanced in the understanding of the production, processing, distribution, consumption, safety and / or human nutrition of food, with a significant positive impact on society .
The second prize recognizes an individual, or group of individuals, who has contributed to improving nutritional health and / or food security, with a focus on strengthening disadvantaged communities.
Fields of achievement for the scientific award include, among others, food science, crop or livestock genetics, agroecology, pest management, supply chain management, soil health, human nutrition, food processing, packaging food or food security.
Achievement fields for the community award include, among others, family nutrition, urban poverty, Aboriginal food security, traditional food systems, socio-economic policy, poverty elimination or community development.
