The Fund was created to provide grants aimed at initiatives for the conservation of species, recognize leaders in the field and raise the importance of species in the conservation debate. Its approach is global and eligibility for grants will extend to all conservation efforts of plant, animal and fungal species, without discrimination by selected regions or species.
The Fund will use the IUCN Red List (www.iucnredlist.org) as the main guide to the conservation status of the species, although the documented variations for the subspecies, the different populations and subpopulations will be taken into account. In general, the Fund gives priority to species that are highly threatened with extinction (with emphasis on endangered and critically endangered species), as well as those listed as deficient or not included, but which are suspected which are highly threatened.
Directed to any person or organization directly involved in the conservation of species may request a grant to the Fund.
